Several eldercare websites have come under fire in a recent NY Times article for possibly crossing an ethical line. The article, http://newoldage.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/09/02/a-helping-hand-paid-on-commission/"[url] A Helping Hand, Paid on Commission[/url" , singled out the popular APlaceforMom website. Specifically the Times questioned their practice whereby visitors who filled out information requests were funneled to "advisors", who were in turn paid hundreds of dollars or more for placing these leads into assisted living or nursing homes. The Times quoted C. Byron Cordes, president-elect of the National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers, as saying: “It’s an unethical business model”. His point was that the advisors, because they don't represent every facility in their area, might not have the best interest of the client at heart.
